A Tea rose, raised by Bernède in 1857. Flowers pink, cup-shaped, well-scented. This variety does very well in Bermuda, where it is generally known as ‘Duchesse de Brabant’. 'Peel Forest Rose' is a found rose from New Zealand (photographed in the garden of Sally Allison), I am sure that this is actually 'Duchesse de Brabant' or 'Comtesse de Labarthe, as we must now call it, for two reasons one the colour number of petals and general form of the flowers and two the extremely distinct smell, just like a pot of fresh tea. ‘Mme Joseph Schwartz’ is a white sport of this rose. Height to 1.5m, forming a strong shrub with nodding flowers. Min. -10°C. For me (Roger) the only Tea rose that has a truly authentic scent of tea.
