Rosa roxburghii var. roxburghii A small shrub. This double, ancient Chinese garden rose, sent back to Europe in 1824, was the original form of Rosa roxburghii. Flowers over a long period in midsummer. Height to 150 cm (5 ft). Well scented. Zone 7, will survive down to –15°C. The drawing illustrated is by a Chinese artist commissioned in China by John Reeve between 1812 and 1817 when he was working as a tea inspector for the East India Company in Canton.
