A China-Bourbon hybrid raised by M. Plantier and introduced by Vibert in 1825. Flowers deep crimson, semi-double, with numerous stamens, petals white at the base and with the occasional white streak, sweetly-scented and repeat-flowering well into autumn. Stems thorny and up to 15 feet (4.5m) in a warm climate. Leaflets long curved teeth. Often used as an understock, and frequently found apparently wild in California, though usually on the site of a deserted cottage or cemetery. A very healthy rose.Photographed at the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden, California, USA. |
