Rosa foliolosa Nutt. A low shrub up to 50cm high, with few prickles; leaflets usually 9, apex and base acute, upper surface glabrous and shining, up to 3cm long. Introduced in 1880. Flowers usually solitary; petals up to 3cm long. Hips subglobose, smooth or glandula; sepals spreading, deciduous. Native of eastern North America from Newfoundland to Pennsylvania to Ontario and Arkansas. Zone 4, will survive down to –30°C |
