Syn. R. dumetorum Thuill. In the canina group.
This is R. canina with hairy leaves and without glands. Stems to 2m, with short, stout hooked prickles. Leaflets rather broad, 1.5-3.5cm long, hairy, usually without glands beneath, simply toothed. Petals around 1.5cm, pale pink. Fruit smooth without sepals.
Throughout Europe and northern Turkey, eastwards to the mountains of central Asia.
Reference Flora Europaea 2:30(1968). In Flora of Turkey (1972), and in Roses of Great Britain and Ireland by G. G. Graham & A.L. Primavesi, this species in sunk into R. canina L.
