In the tomentosa group.
A hairy, bluish-leaved rose with deep pink flowers. Stems to 2m, with slightly curved prickles. Leaflets double-toothed, hairy beneath, particularly on the veins. Petals deep pink, sometimes white. Pedicels glandular. Sepals not swollen at the base, erect after flowering but soon falling. Hips rounded, with a few scattered glandular bristles. Mainly in northern England and Scotland, and in Europe from Bulgaria and Spain to Finland and Ireland.
In R. tomentosa Sm. the sepals are spreading or deflexed and soon fall after flowering.
