This Canadian hybrid rugosa rose was hybridized by George Bugnet and introduced by Percy H. Wright in 1950. It has a conical bud, square tipped and dark red in colour. The flowers are large (4"), double, open, fragrant, red passing to pale pink. The foliage is larger than R. acicularis. New growths reach 5 -6 feet in one season. Blooms on old wood from mid-June to frost in the Peace River districts of Northern Alberta. Very hardy to Zone 2 (-36 - 43 C). It was bred from [(R. acicularis x R. rugosa kamtchatica) x (R. amblyotis x R. rugosa plena)] x Betty Bland. Photographed at the garden of M. and Mme. Masquelier, Lyon, France. |
