An old Chinese variety, grown in the Chateau d’Hex in southern Belgium since the late 18th century, when it was brought back from China via the Compagnie des Indes, for the garden of the Prince Bishop of Liege, Charles de Velbruck. This is one of three ancient Chinese roses at Hex, another being close to ‘Old Blush’ q.v.
