A Shrub rose introduced from th Botanic Garden of Calcutta in about 1824. This rose although a double cultivated form was introduced as a species. Pink double flowers. Known as the Chestnut Rose because the buds and fruit are covered in thorn-like obtrusions giving it a similar appearance to the fruit of the Sweet Chestnut tree.
