Joyaux (1998) questions the validity of this name. The plant photographed here at Mottisfont is very similar to 'Imperatrice Josephine', but has a more neatly quartered flower and narrower leaflets and stipules. The petals lack the translucence which give 'Imperatrice Josephine' its particular quality.
Stems arching, to 1.6m; leaflets elliptic, rather soft and pale green, the stipules not particularly prominent.Flowers well-scented .
The name comes from the catalogue of the nurseryman Godefroy in 1811, who described the flower as 'meduim-sized, imbricated and pink'.
