A Bourbon rose introduced by Guillot Pére in 1859. large, full, velvet, dark red flowers, growth vigorous, some repeat flowering in autumn. Brent Dickerson puts rose this under the Hybrid Perpetual label. Named for the first king of unified Italy (1820-1878). It is a parent of the striped rose ‘Variegata di Bologna’.
