A Hybrid Perpetual introduced by Bennett in 1885. Enormous, late flowering, light pink to dark carmine flowers, growth vigorous. Henry Bennett was a cattle breeder in the late 19th century who used that knowledge to breed roses, most successfully. This rose has always been the subject of controversy because of the size of the bloom, its penchant for mildew, its lack of strong rebloom, etc. See Andrew Foster- Meilliar’s The Book of the Rose for a long discussion. Parentage; ’Mabel Morrison’ x ‘Canari’. Photographed at the Mottisfont Abbey by Bill Grant.
