An Alba rose. Several old roses have produced mutations of leaf rather than flower, and this alba, with a leaf supposed to look like cannabis, is usually known by its synonym ‘à feuilles de Chanvre’. It has narrow grey-green leaflets and thornless stems to 1m, with small, white semi-double flowers. It is illustrated by Redouté in Les Roses, vol. 2. Zone 3, surviving -25°C, and probably less. Photographed at Sangerhausen Rosarium Germany. |
