Rosa chinensis Minima syn. Angel Rose, Rosa indica pumila, R. laurentiae, R.lawranceana, R. semperflorens minim. A small China shrub rose introduced around 1815. The flowers semi-double white or pink with prominent stamens, continuous flowering, little scent. USDA Zone – 5. Important rose in the beginnings of miniature roses. Where it comes from is generally felt to be the island of Mauritius. But it was finally recognized as a variety of R. chinensis so the ultimate source is China. The best discussion of its history is found in Roy E. Shepherd’s History of the Rose, New York 1954. It has a dwarf spreading habit. Photographed at the Vrijbroek Rose Garden in Brussels, Belgium, by Bill Grant. |
