A Tea rose, raised by Dubreuil in 1894. Flowers velvety, deep purplish-red, often hanging and with a long bud, opening to a loose and rather muddled flower. Scent excellent and damask-like, suggesting that this is probably a hybrid tea, i.e. a Tea crossed with a Hybrid Perpetual; red teas are anyway very rare; this was considered one of the best.
Parentage not recorded. Francis Dubreuil was a tailor in Lyons before he took up rose breeding; he was father-in-law of Antoine “Papa” Meilland. The first image was photographed at Mottisfont Garden Hampshire UK and at the Botanical Garden of Adelaide South Australia.
