An alba known since 1848, probably originating in France. Stems rather upright, to 1.5m, with dark green, leathery leaves and few thorns. The buds and opening flowers have a deeper centre, with the outer petals reflexing; the middle of the flower is sometimes quartered, with a button eye. Good scent. Zone 3, surviving -25°C, and probably less.
The synonym, Rosée du Matin, dew of morning, is suitably poetic.
Photographed at the garden of Richard Rix Kent UK. |
