The rose was introduced by Daniel August Schwarzkopf in 1773 and is the oldest known garden rose of German origin.

Our picture is taken from the coloured drawing made by Salomon Pinhas (1794-1837). He worked at Wilhelmshöe Kassel Germany. Bill Gant reports that the rose is still to be seen in the garden there.
