Rosa roxburghii var. roxburghii
A small shrub. This double, ancient Chinese garden rose, sent back to Europe in 1824, was the original form of Rosa roxburghii. Flowers over a long period in midsummer. Height to 150 cm (5 ft). Well scented. Zone 7, will survive down to –15°C.

The drawing illustrated is by a Chinese artist commissioned in China by John Reeve between 1812 and 1817 when he was working as a tea inspector for the East India Company in Canton. The vast collection of Reeves' drawings of Chinese plants are held at the Royal Horticultural Society Library and at The Natural History Museum in London.
