Rosa glauca Pourr. syn. R. rubrifolia Vill. A tall shrub up to 9 feet (4m) with support normally with arching branches and few thorns, easily recognised by its very grey or sometimes purplish leaves and small pink flowers. Hips brownish red. Native of the mountains of central Europe, from the Pyrenees and Alps eastward to Poland, Romania and Albania, but not common. Introduced into cultivation before 1830, this rose has recently become very popular for its striking foliage colours; and Lens Roses in Belgium have produced many interesting forms. Much in demand for flower arranging, for its interesting foliage. Zone 5, will survive down to –25°C
