A hybrid Kordesii, Explorer group, shrub rose, growing to about 3 feet in height. Bred by Svejda and introduced in 1982. . Samuel de Champlain is considered the father of New France. Among his other accomplishments was the founding of the first successful settlement in Canada at Quebec in 1608.) 'Champlain' is a complex hybrid originating from a cross between R. kordesii and 'Max Graf', and a hardy seedling originating from a cross between 'Red Dawn' and 'Suzanne'.
