An Alba rose. A large shrub to 2m, with arching branches. Leaves greyish-green, with usually 7 broad leaflets. Flowers well-scented, white with a hint of yellowish-pink in the centre when first open, 7-10cm across, in early summer only. The centre of the flower has small, irregular petals and some stamens showing when fully open. It is similar in leaf and habit to ‘Alba Semi-plena’, and has been known to revert to it. Zone 3, surviving -25°C, and probably less. The photograph of hips was taken by Lilia Weatherly in Australia. |
