An old climbing rose bred by Pernet-Ducher around 1920, introduced in 1923. Named for the great gardener Colonel Lawrence Johnston of Hidcote garden. There is a fine plant growing to a height and width of about 30 feet at Powis Castle, Powys, Wales.
