A Tea rose introduced by Jacotot in 1853. Sometimes considered a Noisette. WFRS Old Rose Hall of fame. One of the most popular of the old rose climbers. A moderate climber with stems to 20m on old specimens in warm climates, but usually less, around 5m. Flowers rich creamy-buff yellow, with pinkish and salmon tints, with a strong tea scent. Leaves reddish when young, becoming dark green and thick-textured. As well as thriving in warm areas, ‘Gloire de Dijon’ is common on warm cottage walls in Aberdeenshire in eastern Scotland, where it survives very cold winters and cool summers; in southern areas it is recommended for north-facing walls and is one of the hardiest of all Teas.
Parentage: ‘Desprez à Fleur Jaune’ ( a Noisette) or a similar yellow climbing Tea x ‘Souvenir de la Malmaison’, (a Bourbon).
