An old Chinese rose, discovered in the garden of a rich mandarin at Ningpo by Robert Fortune in 1845. Flowers bronzy or fawn yellow, sometimes veined and shot-through with pink and purple, mainly in spring when the plant hangs with the weight of flowers. Stems to 20m or so when old, very thorny when young. Often found in hedges in northern California. A hardy variety, min. -10°C, but best in a warm climate. |
